CHOW OF THE YEAR 2008,

This year COTYS was held at My Pet Stop, Denton, Manchester. On Easter Sunday the 23rd of March, and hosted by Northern Counties Chow Chow Club. The Secretary/treasurer Eve Williamson was ably assisted by her small committee and they pulled out all of the stops this year to provide a really wonderful show and a happy day out for everyone who attended. The president Mrs Jean Hempenstall opened the show , the theme of which this year was the very famous Champion U-kwong King Solomon  (until recently, the all time CC record holder of any breed) and his owner breeder Mrs Joan Egerton was the  Guest of Honour. She was presented with a limited edition plate featuring ‘Solly’ and a copy of the U-Kwong affix which is now owned and protected for fifty years by Northern Counties, thanks to Mrs Edgerton’s kind permission. Mrs Egerton who was accompanied by her daughter Melonie and son in law, graciously said that “she never thought that she would have such a wonderful day out, be made to feel so special, and see so many old friends again”. She wore her Guest of Honour rosette with pride, all day long.

The arena was decorated with banners and silk flowers, plus cut chow chow images and laminated photographs of CH U-kwong King Solomon, wearing his crown, for spectators and exhibitors to take away with them as souvenirs at the end of the show. The Ring numbers and prize certificates were of a beautiful matching design and once again featuring King Solomon. These had been designed and produced by Lynne Worthington together with the wonderful hand made greeting cards, gifts and souvenirs on the club stall. Lynne also designed the art work for the fabulous collector’s porcelain china plates and beakers which were for sale at the show. Every human exhibitor was given a specially designed Northern Counties ‘bag for life’ donated by Eve, and every chow that was entered, his or her own Chinese Horoscope.  Shirley Andrews designed and produced the gift tags, for the bags, and more hand made items for the stall, together with the money envelopes to hold the cash prizes presented by Mrs Joan Egerton.  Maureen Davies made and iced celebration Madera Cake, with was served during the intermission together with Bubbly, Bucks Fizz and souvenir fruit cake to take home.  The auction of an original oil painting of King Solomon by Miss Jenni Pendleton raised a tidy sum for the clubs funds as did the other chow chow items auctioned. The committee would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for their donations and support. Jack Trick (Jowrtrix) judged the dogs and David Robbins (Chenting) the bitches. Gillian Claxton (Tsuni) was the referee.

The Winner of the show was Sheila Jakeman’s CH Tanlap Tuftytitan D. Reserve was Rodney Oldham’s Ch Towmena In The Frame B.O.S. was Gary Martin’s  CH Foillan Finesse B. Best Puppy Martin’s Misty Holly Red Folly from Foillan.
